Overview

Western Mongolia is the most remote and most beautiful part with unique culture of Mongolia On our tour we will explore Bayan-Ulgii province which established in 1940, is located 1,636 kilometers to the west of Ulaanbaatar. It has a total area of 45,8 thousand square kilometers, a population of 88 thousand, and most of the inhabitants are Kazakhs; the remaining population is composed of various groups of Oirat Mongols (Uriankhai, Turguud, Dorbet, etc, and Tuva). Bayan-Ulgii province has the highest elevation in Mongolia, therefore the weather is cooler here. Western Mongolia has been the center for ancient historical places, and also this part is rich in different minerals. Only in western Mongolia, you can visit Kazakh eagle hunters who hunt with trained golden eagles for small animals such as foxes or mountain Also It has more than 80 fresh-water lakes, (such as Dayan, Khoton, Khorgo), 100 rivers (Khovd, Tsagaan, Sogoot, Yolt…etc) and more than 200 wells.

Your guide and driver will pick you at the New international airport located in “Tuv“ province’s “Sergelen” sum. This airport was built by Japanese long-term loan for duration of 40 years and started working in July 2021. Now, its 51% is managed by Japanese and 49% is managed by Mongolian part.

We will then head to “Terelj” National Park, a protected area located 70 kilometers north east of Ulaanbaatar. There you can enjoy natural beauty such as mountains, flowers, birds. Furthermore, you will be able to experience the way of living of nomadic people. This area’s rocks are carved into many interesting shapes by only wind and rain water; one of them is called a Turtle Rock, which you can climb. Overnight stay in ger of the camp.

Take a flight to Bayan Ulgii province from Hushigtiin Hundii airport. The capital city of Bayan Ulgii province is called Ulgii city, which located in the extreme west of the country. It lies 1,710 meters above the sea level.

After having breakfast we will drive shiveet Khaikhan mountains. Most of the carvings at the lower sections of the Shiveet Khairkhan mountain found on rocks scattered to the east banks of the Khar salaa river. You can explore the livestock from that period and evolution of the people's Nomadic ways.

Will drive Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain is the highest mountain in Mongolia and we call it the 'roof.' It is located in Ulaankhus sum of Bayan Ulgii province. Its highest peak, the Khuiten Peak, is the highest point of Mongolia at 4,374 meters above sea level. Glaciated areas include the Potanin Glacier (Mongolia’s longest) and the Alexandra Glacier. This mountain has become one of the highest demand mountain-climbingdestinations for mountaineers, beginning in 1956. (There are more than 700 climbers who have reached to the top). This day we will stay with Tuva Family and experience their daily lifestyle.

After breakfast, Tuva family will support us with their horses and tour to Tsagaan gol and Altai 5 Bogd. Enjoy your horse trekking. Before horse ride our guide will explain some instructions of local horse and you need to follow it. Here you have an opportunity to enjoy a panoramic view of Altai Mountains which includes the highest peak and Potanin glacier.

The Tsagaan Gol river flows to south through an open and wide valley. In summer, when the glaciers melt, the water color is white, like milk. Therefore, the name of the river is tsagaan=white gol = river. The length of Tsagaan Gol is 20 km. In the evening riding back and overnight stay with Tuva family.

On the way back, we will visit an eagle hunter's family and experience the way they train golden eagles to hunt. Hunting with eagles is a traditional form of falconry found throughout the Eurasian Steppe, practised by ancient Khitan and Turkic people. Today, Mongolian-Kazakhs are the biggest community to maintain this cultural heritage. The skill of training golden eagles is passed on through generations We will stay overnight at a hotel upon arrival in Bayan Ulgii province.
